The park board uses the Master Plan, initially adopted in 2015 to guide investments in the park as funding is available.

In 2023, the MPRB will be consulting with the community on which trail connections or enhancements called for in the master plan should be implemented.

A series of public meetings are being scheduled over the summer, and feedback can always be sent directly to the project manager. As with other park projects we anticipate online surveys will be done to capture information from members of the public unable to attend in person meetings.

This project will build as many of the following unfinished, short-term connection improvements identified in the plan as possible under the project budget:

A) Bike connection between Lake Nokomis Community Center and Woodlawn Boulevard

B) Connection between the 54th Street E Triangle Park and West Lake Nokomis Parkway

C) New trail connection between Edgewater Boulevard and Cedar Avenue Bridge (the cow path between E Lake Nokomis Pkwy and the bridge, extending North from the southernmost parkway-cedar intersection)

D) New pedestrian-only trail loop around Lake Nokomis lagoon (lake area to the west of the Cedar Ave bridge)

E)Cedar Avenue crossing at 52nd Street

F) Cedar Avenue crossing at 50th Street (this would set the stage for the trail across the athletic fields to the main beach area that is to be implemented with the field renovations scheduled for 2025 funding)

G) Lake Hiawatha pedestrian-only bridge over Minnehaha Creek (separating bike ped traffic where right now the visibility is terrible, bikes are traveling at high speeds due to the hill, and pedestrians are not walking in the designated pedestrian lane)
