We use Facebook and a Mailchimp Mailing List to notify the public of upcoming volunteer activities. Since most are growing season dependent, notice of events is typically one to two weeks in advance of the event.
Garlic Mustard Pulls

Help remove garlic mustard from the park! This prolific seeder was likely brought to Minnesota by early settlers for use in cooking. It’s roots are allelopathic and prevent the growth of other plants meaning that keeping it in check is vitally important for maintaining ecosystem diversity. Pulls take place in April or May.
Zebra Mussel Monitoring

Every other week from Memorial Day to Labor Day, volunteers check Zebra Mussel monitoring plates for the presence of these aquatic invasive. Due to its connection to Minnehaha Creek Lake Nokomis is listed as infested by the MNDNR with Zebra Mussels but at this time, no evidence of zebra mussels has been found in the lake.
